Highly sought-after single-volume collector's edition known for its unique production. A "1 Volume" edition containing all three parts (The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King). Printed on ultra-thin India Paper, allowing the entire 1,193-page epic to be only about one inch thick. Bound in black hardback buckram cloth featuring a design by Tolkien himself, depicting the Numenorean throne with "Elendil" in Tengwar script. A one page map showing a part of The Shire appears on page 30. The Map of Gondor, Rohan and Mordor is inserted on a fold-out sheet opposite page 770. The 1954 version of the map of The West of Middle-earth at the End of the Third Age is inserted on a fold-out sheet at the rear. Includes distinctive speckled light green page edges. Issued in a slipcase where some marks to the outer surface have been made black with ink.
