The book has spotting, shelf wear, and light soiling. The binding is square and the block is soiled with a few spots but is free of writing. The boards remain straight and the stamped design on the front is dark and legible. The dust jacket is creased, chipped, has old tape mends on the verso, and is otherwise well worn.

That being said, the American first edition has always been significantly harder to track down than its British counter part. A still presentable example of a scarce to market book. This is the correct first American printing with the matching date on the title page. A minor, yet still important, title from the author of the Lord of the Rings series and The Hobbit.
