First things first: This set of three books and it's binder are an excellent condition. There is some limited wear as you can see (in the provided pictures) of the covers of each book. There is some rolling and even a split in one of the covers that is over the binder. That being said, these books have never been opened, meaning I believe they have never been open to be read. The pages in each book are perfect.

There are no marks, the maps are all intact and appear to not have ever been unfolded.. This is one of the best representations of this set of books from 1965 Second: The second edition is the foundation of almost all modern publications. The primary changes in this edition include: The new forward from the author: The second edition of The Lord of the Rings (published in 1965) features a new Foreword by J. Tolkien that clarifies the history of the work, addresses its growth from The Hobbit, and firmly dismisses theories that the story was a direct allegory for World War II. Textual Emendations: Tolkien systematically corrected hundreds of typographical errors, printer mistakes, and continuity errors that slipped into the first printing.

The "Note on the Shire Records":This text was moved from Appendix A to the end of the Prologue, giving readers immediate, in-universe context for the translation of the "Red Book of Westmarch". An Expanded Index: A more comprehensive, newly compiled index was added to the back of The Return of the King to help readers navigate the complex names and events. Revised Appendices: Minor corrections and date updates were made to the historical and genealogical appendices, such as adjusting the year Aragorn met Arwen to fit the finalized timeline.
