The Lord of the Rings. Sixth, fifth, and sixth impressions, all in original dust jackets. Publisher and Year : London: George Allen & Unwin, 1956, 1957, and 1960. The Fellowship of the Ring (sixth impression in sixth dust jacket), The Two Towers (fifth impression in fifth dust jacket), and The Return of the King (sixth impression in sixth dust jacket). Condition and Description : Octavos, bound in red cloth stamped in gilt, top edges dyed red, other edges plain, map bound at the rear of each volume, all in dust jackets. Preserved in archival mylar covers and housed in a slipcase stamped in gilt. The Fellowship of the Ring: Boards minimally worn. Hinges and binding secure, though the text block sits convex. Mild staining to the edges of the text block. Prior owner's name to the front free endpaper.

Map intact but with one short, closed tear. Dust jacket is tanned, rubbed, and stained, with losses to the extremities, some letters missing at the spine crown, and a closed tear sealed on the blindside with reversible and archival tissue.

The Two Towers: Boards minimally worn, bright gilt, tight hinges and binding. Prior owner's name in ink to the front free endpaper but clear otherwise. Dust jacket tanned and rubbed, with some surface abrasions and small losses to the extremities. The Return of the King: Damp staining to the bottom edges of the boards and spine, with some color bleed to the inner margins of the preliminary and terminal leaves, not affecting the text, and to the jacket blindside. Upper gilt fairly bright; lower gilt dulled but still legible.

Prior owner's name in ink to the front free endpaper but no other writing. Free endpapers tanned except where protected by the jacket flaps.

Mild foxing to the preliminary and terminal leaves, with the interior pages clear. Tiny hole to the upper-right corner of the last page through the rear free endpaper, not affecting the text or map. Dust jacket tanned and rubbed, with some damp staining to the spine. It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to.
