While Return of the King has very few noticeable signs of wear to the dust jacket, The Fellowship and The Towers both have some shelf wear to the dust jackets (see photos). The books themselves are NEAR FINE: clean, bright, tight hardcovers with NO previous owner's markings.
The tips and ends are sharp, the pages are crisp and bright with no no dog ears. The colorful publisher's topstain on each volume is fresh and unfaded. The lettering on the spines of all 3 volumes is bright and fresh, NOT worn, obviously these books have never been out of their original dust jackets. VOLUME ONE: The Fellowship of the Ring: Book is black cloth with orange and gold gilt eye of sauron device on front board, gold gilt to spine in AS NEW condition and tipped in wall map at rear of book (see photos) in perfect condition. No previous owner's markings. Dust jacket is price-clipped, correctly dated 02/67 on front flap, and with some small chipping at each spine ends as well as some minor nicks here and there. See photos for signs of wear. Dust jacket in brand new mylar protector. VOLUME TWO: The Two Towers: Book is black cloth with red and gold gilt eye of sauron device on front board, gold gilt to spine, also AS NEW, tipped in map in perfect condition. Clean and tight with no previous owner's markings.Dust jacket is price-clipped, correctly dated 02/67 on front flap, and with only some minuscule light wear at spine ends and a nick or two at the edges. Synopsis page has a light brown stain that is very faint. VOLUME 3: The Return of the King: Book is black cloth with purple and gold gilt eye of sauron device on front board, gold gilt to spine, AS NEW, with fold-out map in perfect condition. Dust jacket is price-clipped, correctly dated 02/67 on front flap, and with only some minuscule wear at spine ends and front bottom corner.
Slight mark on the title "Being the Third Part of the Lord of the Rings. There is also some type of brown stain on the opening page (minor, see photo). Also some light foxing on the fore edge, also documented in the photos. A very scarce and sought after set in first printing.
