The Shaping Of Middle-Earth: The Quenta, The Ambarkanta and The Annals , by J. Tolkien (Lord of the Rings), edited by Christopher Tolkien.

This is the fourth volume of The History Of Middle-Earth Series. The book measures approximately 9" by 5.75" by 1.25 thick, with 380 numbered pages, including maps and diagrams. Research suggests that there were only 17,500 copies of this first November 1986 printing, and a total of eight printings completed since its initial publication. I consider this book to be in overall good+ to very good vintage pre-owned condition.

There are a few very faint smudges along the text block edges (see photograph 21), and creasing at the top corner of pages 65-68. There is also mild crimping along the top edge of the same pages, resulting in a thin gap that is seen along the top text block edge (photograph 20). Tiny nick to the front bottom dust jacket edge (next to the spine). Otherwise, the book appears to be quite clean and well preserved crisp pages, clean dust jacket, tight and square binding. The dust jacket has been fitted with a new Brodart clear mylar archival protector which is not permanently affixed and can be easily removed if desired.

The mylar shows some waviness which I believe is from the cardboard tube it is stored on.
